Welcome to First Presbyterian Church

It is our pleasure to welcome you to First Presbyterian Church. We hope that you will find here a caring community where all are welcomed as brothers and sisters in Christ.

We assume that your life is not always tranquil and that your faith is part of an ongoing journey-we assume that because it is also true of us! But the gospel is good news: God's love has been revealed in Christ, calling us to be reconciled to all from which we have been estranged: God, each other, creation, ourselves.

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with Presbyterian worship, with Christian worship, or with worship patterns. Whether a life-long Presbyterian, new to church, or on the edges of faith, we are glad you are here and we welcome you today to this community in Christ. To guests, stangers, and all in need, the Church offers the good things of God's grace and love.

We invite you to join us in worship, study, enjoy fellowship, and chat with people who are involved in the life of this church. We invite you to accept our invitation to come and grow, celebrate, and serve with us.

About First Pres

Organized in 1884, the Presbyterian Church was the first organized religious body in Brighton and the first denomination to erect a church building. The original church was completed in 1887 and located at 157 South First Avenue. By 1915, the original facility proved inadequate for the growing congregation. A second and larger building was built on the southeast corner of 4th Avenue and Bush Street.

Much of this building was gutted by fire in 1936, but was rebuilt and rededicated in 1937. The church continued to grow in ministry, and the current building, situated on nearly seven acres of land, was dedicated in January of 1987. The twelve lower dormers of the church recall the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve disciples of Jesus. The four upper dormers recall the four Gospels. As the windows flood the sanctuary with light, so the four Gospels flood our lives with the light of Christ.

First Pres is a member of the Presbytery of Denver, which includes over 50 congregations and an approximate total fo 14,300 members. For more information on the Presbytery of Denver's ministry, visit www.denverpresbytery.org.
